But seeing some houses for the same price in Havertown that are move-in ready is very tempting. I have seen a few houses that need some work in Bryn Mawr in the high 300s, and I would be willing to go this route. Also, close proximity to train stations are important, as we both commute to center city for work and really don't want to drive. We are very simple and not looking to impress, and would prefer to find a home in the mid to high 300's, but can comfortably go to 600k. So the fact that Havertown is not considered the Main Line and more working class is completely fine with us. I know the schools are great, and we honestly are not moving out there just because it's the "Main Line" (want no part of the snooty crowd). I don't mean to offend anyone, but the few times we have been in that area, it seems very rundown and industrial. With that said, we strongly dislike the whole Upper Darby area, and that is what has me worried about Havertown (being so close). We had been focused on the Bryn Mawr/Ardmore area, but we recently started seeing some homes online in Havertown and were quite surprised how much more you can get at a lower price point. We are familiar with the area, but only from driving through the area a few times and knowing a family or two who live out that way. We have two children who are currently in 3rd and 6th grade (6th grader will be attending a private school for 7th grade in Paoli, which is the reason for the move). My wife and I are planning on moving from our current home in Jenkintown Borough to the Main Line area.
